An amazing, custom Sako L691 rifle in .416 Dakota built by renowned rifle maker and one of the legends of our time, Sterling Davenport. The rifle is built on a Sako L691 action and is fitted with a match grade 24" barrel, with barrel band sling stud, custom quarter rib rear sight and barrel band front sight. Sterling stocked the rifle in a dazzling, exhibition grade English walnut stock with 26 line per inch checkering in a Fleur De Lis pattern. A Leupold VX 1.75-6X32 with Warne Quick Detach mounts compliments the rifle perfectly. The rifle has been checked over by Hill Country Rifles to ensure the rifle is in perfect working order. The 100-yard test target is attached and reflects a three shot, 3/4" group with 400 grain solids, which is extraordinary for a big bore rifle. A perfect solution for African dangerous game or to be the centerpiece of your collection! The package includes a set of CH4D reloading dies, 60 pieces of new, properly head-stamped brass and the balance of a box of the 400 gr. custom loaded ammo used to sight in the rifle.

Davenport is widely regarded as one of the premier gunmakers of our time and began his "career" as a custom gunmaker in 1975 after serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He learned much of the trade as an apprentice under master gunsmith Aaron Gates and breezed through the famous gunsmithing program at the Colorado School of Trades after his discharge from the Navy. Upon graduation, Davenport started his career with Harry Lawson Custom Gunmaker in Arizona and over the next 20 years began to make a name for himself, showing his own work in classic shows where his talents were recognized when compared against the very best American Gunmakers Guild members. It was at one of these shows that Paul Roberts of Rigby examined Davenport's work and hired him to build bolt rifles for Rigby under the Rigby name. Roberts would supply the barreled actions and the wood, and Davenport would take it from there. This partnership with Rigby firmly entrenched his position as one of Americas best and helped launched his career. The confidence Rigby placed in Davenport probably tells you everything you need to know about the quality of his work.

The styling and elegance of a Davenport rifle is truly a legacy of steel and wood, which is precisely what makes his custom rifles so enduring - it is a legacy passed down from gunmaker to gunmaker. Davenport figures he only made between 60 and 70 rifles under his own name, so this is truly a rare masterpiece in a dangerous game caliber that will take on anything the Dark Continent has to offer. DSC FOUNDATION THANKS CRAIG DIXON FOR THIS 100% DONATION.
